Super Bowl XLII awaits the Patriots and the Chargers

seth-edward-oneal.jpgA ticket to Glendale, Arizona is on the line as the New England Patriots play hosts to the San Diego Chargers this Sunday.

Glendale, the battleground for the biggest war in football to date, Super Bowl XLII. Many teams aspire to play in it, the big dance, where they have an opportunity to be crowned world champions. On Sunday, the Patriots and the Chargers will hope to pass one more final test before punching in their ticket to Arizona.

The New England Patriots will host the San Diego Chargers in Foxboro this Sunday at the 2008 AFC championship game. The team that wins this one will represent the AFC and play whoever comes out of the NFC at the biggest stage in American football today, Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Arizona.

Of course, the New England Patriots come in this one as the heavy favorites. They haven't tasted a loss this season and many people are expecting these Pats to stay undefeated and win it all at Glendale.

The Patriots have already become the second team in NFL history to score an undefeated season since the Miami Dolphins did it in 1972. Tom Brady won the NFL Most Valuable Player of the Year while setting a record for touchdowns among NFL quarterbacks, not to mention helping wide receiver Randy Moss set his own TD record, surpassing the Jerry Rice for most TDs in a season by a wideout.

Crazy huh? The only thing left for them to do now is win Super Bowl XLII. Failing to do so will leave all those accolades for nothing.

The San Diego Chargers, on the other hand, caught fire at the right time. After a sub-par start to the season, the Chargers just blazed through everybody heading to the playoffs and after coming up with an upset win over the defending Super Bowl XLI champions, Indianapolis Colts, last weekend, these guys are definitely riding high with momentum now.

STILL, injuries to starters like quarterback Philip Rivers, tight end Antonio Gates and running back LaDainian Tomlinson (last year's NFL MVP...) will definitely be a huge disadvantage to the Bolts. The only thing left for the Chargers is hope Shawne Merriman's spasmodic dance will scare the Pats away.
