New York Giants QB, Eli Manning, and San Diego Chargers trash talker, Philip Rivers, in Super Bowl XLII?
Well, it's a longshot but you never really know for sure.
Both Eli Manning and Philip Rivers have resurrected their respective teams after subpar starts to the season. Now, Manning and Rivers have the Giants and the Chargers a win away from Super Bowl XLII as they continue to surprise their critics week after week.
How about that huh? Both the New York Giants and the San Diego Chargers are a win away from Super Bowl XLII. If these two teams can beat the two best quarterbacks in the game today, (that is, of course, Patriots QB Tom Brady and the ultimate Packer, Brett Favre...) then we are in for a Super Bowl extravaganza that features two young quarterbacks many people probably counted out already.
First, Eli Manning. For the past three weeks, Eli Manning has played as well as any quarterback in the league.
The fact that two of those performances have come in the playoffs to put the New York Giants in a game against the Green Bay Packers and a win away from the Super Bowl is reason enough to believe that he has taken the step to become the talent he was perceived as when he was drafted into the NFL.
Oh yeah, that probably justifies why he has ''Manning'' at the back of his jersey too.
''I'm just happy he's on our team,'' New York Giants center Shaun O'Hara said. ''I know he gets a lot of criticism just because of his last name. Eli is a great quarterback. I'm glad to see him get the recognition he deserves.''
Philip Rivers, on the other hand, have done little to help the San Diego Chargers where they are at this point but luckily for him, Rivers has a great supporting cast to mask his flaws and let him shine like a star behind center.
Rivers was injured the last time the San Diego Chargers played a playoff game.
Luckily for him, he had backup Billy Volek to pick up the slack, get the win for him and just let him get his ass ready for the New England Patriots.
''Again, I hope I'm going to be ready to go. But if not, I have all the confidence and I know the team has all the confidence that Billy will step in and keep us going,'' Philip Rivers said.
It should be interesting to see whether these two young quarterbacks can pass their respective tests this Sunday.
