Mavericks visit Pistons in Detroit to become the only Dallas team we'll see on Super Bowl XLII Sunday

Sorry Romo-Nation, (that's still one of the most ridiculous fan club names in sports...) but I had to put that one in.

While majority of the sporting public will probably be cashing in their Super Bowl XLII ticket to see the Patriots play the Giants at the Super Bowl, Dallas will STILL get a piece of the action when their pro basketball team heads to the Palace of Auburn Hills to play the Pistons on Super Bowl Sunday.

And in case you didn't get that, the Dallas Cowboys are still worthless in the postseason. Thanks to Tony Romo buckling under pressure for the second straight year. The Dallas Mavericks on the other hand, will be looking to wipe that sour taste of defeat the last time they were on the hardwood.

You see, the last time the Dallas Mavericks played on a basketball court, they blew it at the TD Banknorth Garden, losing to the Boston Celtics despite the fact that Boston's newest hero, Kevin Garnett, wasn't playing.

The Boston Celtics snapped Dallas' four-game winning streak after scoring the game's last six points to win without Garnett, 96-90. Dallas' loss also made it CRYSTAL CLEAR that Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson won't be coaching anything at the 2008 NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans.

''It was a well-fought game, and neither team gave the other team much. I had the rebound in my hand when it was a tie game, and Rondo came out of nowhere. I didn't even see him, and he snuck it up to the basket before I could react,'' Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki said, referring to Rajon Rondo's go-ahead lay-up after he snatched the rebound away from the German to give the Celtics a 92-90 lead.

Boston never looked back since.

It doesn't get any easier for the Dallas Mavericks too as they have a date with the Detroit Pistons, another Eastern Conference powerhouse, after taking on the current kings of the East from Boston.

And although we will all be probably watching the Patriots and the Giants this weekend, it should still be nice knowing that a Dallas team will be playing on Super Bowl Sunday, even though there won't be any Tony Romo or T.O.
