Can Antonio McDyess carry the Pistons as a Starter?
Yep, the man is back as a starter in the NBA.
For all ya'll who were able to watch Antonio McDyess before joining Detroit, you should then know how electrifying he was when he was still the young starting forward playing for the then struggling Denver Nuggets. Well, this 2007-08 NBA basketball season, it certainly looks like he'll be starting again and for the Pistons' sake, let's hope this experiment works out for them.
With Chris Webber continuing to wither as a bona fide NBA star while father time continues to slow him down, the Detroit Pistons are looking at Antonio McDyess to fill C-Webb's spot in the starting lineup.
Sure, after a few seasons playing from the Detroit Pistons bench, Antonio McDyess has been able to become one of the best reserves in the league today. The question now is, can he play at the same level as a starter?
I know what ya'll are probably thinking. What in the hell is the difference between a starter and a reserve anyway? Well for one, a reserve can first watch the flow of the game, judge it's intensity and figure out just what one can do to improve his team's chances of winning a game.
A starter don't have such privileges. And compared to reserves, starters probably face more scrutiny because if you are starting for an NBA team, that means you must be one of the top five best players in your team.
Either that or you're just spooning with the coach.
Sure, Antonio McDyess was a very important reserve for the Detroit Pistons. But did you know that since McDyess joined the Pistons, they haven't won any titles yet? And to think that the team was coming off a championship year then when they shocked the world by beating the Los Angeles Lakers in five games.
Still, McDyess believes it's the right move for him.
''I think it's going to be a good move for me,'' Antonio McDyess said. ''I think it's working to my advantage. The (other starters) are going to get so much attention; people aren't going to put their attention on me.''
Hey, that's what Chris Webber thought too.
