This is why they are not Vince Young's Texas Longhorns in this 2007-08 NCAA College Football Season
One, because Vince Young now plays for the Tennessee Titans in the NFL. Two, because if Vinnie was still playing for Texas, he'll cream the Indians.
That was not the case last Saturday when the Texas Longhorns hosted the Arkansas State Indians. To say that the Longhorns had somewhat an embarrassing and ugly end to their contest against the visiting Indians could very well be an understatement.
Oh yeah, with the Michigan Wolverines already becoming the first victim of a horrific upset in the early stages of the 2007-08 NCAA college football season, the Texas Longhorns ALMOST became victim number two.
For all ya'll who missed it, yes, the No.5 ranked team in the country today, that's the powerhouse team of the Michigan Wolverines, was defeated by a lowly team of the Appalachian State Mountaineers, 34-32, after the Mountaineers' Corey Lynch blocked a 37-yard field goal try by Michigan to get the improbable upset.
How's that to start the season eh?
As for the Texas Longhorns, they almost fell to an embarrassing loss themselves, if it wasn't for an onside recovery that helped them avoid that same sick feeling those Wolverines must be having after the weekend.
The Texas Longhorns, understandably, was the heavy favorites to win last Saturday's contest against the Arkansas State Indians but found themselves somewhat struggling to hold on for the win, in the final minute for crying out loud.
Texas QB Colt McCoy was great in the first half but never looked the same in the second, throwing interceptions and missing his receivers to keep the Indians in the contest. With the game on the line, Arkansas State tried to recover their own onside kick only to have it negated by a an improper formation.
Their second onside kick was recovered by Texas' Brandon Foster and the Longhorns started breathing easier.
Next up for the Longhorns are the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday. I can smell an upset this time.
