So, will JaMarcus Russell start for the Raiders now?
In case you didn't know it yet, the Oakland Raiders finally reached an agreement with JaMarcus Russell.
Coming to the 2007-08 NFL football season, the Oakland Raiders and their overall No.1 draft pick, JaMarcus Russell, can't seem to agree on a contract that will have the former LSU standout playing for the Silver and Black and at least bring back some dignity to a team that just keeps on fucking up.
Well, JaMarcus Russell finally agreed on a contract offered by the team that drafted him Monday, a contract that will see Russell playing for the Oakland Raiders in the next six years.
Some say that the said contract was spewed out from a four-day negotiation marathon with a maximum value of $68 million. It also includes a $34.5 million guarantee in the first three years, that's a 65 percent increase of what Houston Texans defensive end Mario Williams will be making during the first three years of his contract.
Mario Williams was the overall No.1 draft pick last season.
Oh yeah, did I mention that JaMarcus Russell will also have a $3 million guarantee in the fourth season of his contract? Jeezus... It's getting crazy now. Hopefully, Russell turns out to be worth every single penny.
The former LSU Tigers quarterback had one of the longest holdouts in recent history by an NFL rookie. Bryant McKinnie, in 2002, missed the first eight games of the regular season because of similar reasons.
The Minnesota Vikings made the mistake of drafting him that year.
As far as overall No.1 draft picks are concerned, no one has ever held out on his contract longer than JaMarcus Russell since Bo Jackson refused to sign with Tampa Bay back in '86.
