Ohio State Buckeyes face Washington Huskies Saturday
And after ending Boise State's winning streak to 14, the Huskies are probably hoping they'll have more than just punts against the Buckeyes.
Rightfully so, because the last time the Ohio State Buckeyes were in the field this 2007-08 NCAA college football season, they did not give their opponents anything other than punts.
Yep, the Ohio State Buckeyes sure were a tough nut to crack last Saturday when they hosted the Akron Zips. And just because Ohio State's rivals then have ''Zips'' for a moniker, the Buckeyes simply ZIPPED their rivals' offense for them.
The Akron Zips were unable to do anything against the Ohio State defense other than punt the ball, punt it again and punt it some more. The Zips could only come up with 71 yards on offense, scoring only two points in the very first quarter from a safety play before going scoreless for the rest of the game.
For what it's worth, the Akron Zips kinda' knew what was coming heading to this one. Hell, they are facing one of two finalists who played in last season's BCS championship game. What they didn't count on was how bad they lost.
''We're young and inexperienced and we're playing against one of the better front sevens in the country,'' Akron Zips head coach J.D. Brookhart said. ''We knew we'd struggle, but not that badly.''
For what it's worth, the Akron Zips did have their name on the NCAA college football history books. Akron's punter, John Stec, set a school record of most punts in a game after what has been an utter annihilation of their offense.
''I punted more than I did my entire senior season of high school,'' John Stec said. ''I think I punted 10 times that season.''
This Ohio State Buckeyes team will be visiting the Washington Huskies next. The Huskies, like the Buckeyes, haven't dropped a single game in this 2007-08 NCAA college football season yet.
And if they can come up with an upset win again Saturday like the one they had against the No.22 ranked Boise State Broncos, they just might have something against the Buckeyes other than punts.
I still wouldn't bet on it though.
