Will George Mason make noise at March Madness?

In case you forgot what ''George Mason'' meant, it's the entity that destroyed your brackets after it went all the way to the NCAA Final Four.

And with merely a few more days before the 2008 March Madness bracket tournament begin, we found it fitting to write about them George Mason Patriots again. And NO... It has nothing to do with us liking this team that bares a similar name, the New England Patriots...

The George Mason Patriots shocked the rest of the world, LITERALLY, in 2006 when they went all the way to the NCAA Final Four. Although they fell flat on their faces when they went up against the Florida Gators that year, their Final Four stint instantly let them become ''superstars'' of their own campus.

This year though, the George Mason Patriots are 20-9 and are ranked 72nd. As expected, all that fanfare they generated a couple of years ago died down a bit and for some reason, this particular Patriot, one of two remaining starters from the fabled George Mason Final Four team, likes it just the way it is.

Patriots forward Will Thomas, two years ago, would always have a pen beside his plate ready to sign autographs whenever he dines at the campus cafeteria for the fans their team generated in 2006.

Two years later, he's happy that everything is back to ''normal.''

''This year it calmed down,'' Will Thomas said. ''You can enjoy your meal, sit there and talk, just hang out a little bit longer.''

''It might sound weird, but we still have the energy and the competitiveness to get there again,'' George Mason senior guard Folarin Campbell, who also started on the 2006 NCAA Final Four team, said.

''And I'm talking about winning the C.A.A. and then getting back to the Final Four. Nobody thought we could get there the first time, either.''

Of course, you can bet your ass that they're lying about that part being contented about the way things are today.

Packers say Favre is Retiring before saying he's not.

seth-edward-oneal.jpgConfusing isn't it?

Such was the trend when the official website of the Green Bay Packers released Favre's retirement page before a Packers spokesperson claimed that all that was merely a mistake. He he... Apparently, they did all that just to increase the site's traffic, just like what we do here sometimes...

A page on Packers.com set the rumor mill in motion about yet another speculated retirement of Brett Favre. (Yes, it's turning into an annual thing to keep the rest of us talking about football until we hit September...)

On a page that was labeled as breaking news, a headline read, ''Favre to retire.'' Underneath a HUGE picture of Brett Favre, there was a line that read, ''Packers quarterback Brett Favre has announced that he will retire.''

The same page contained the words, ''Due to the magnitude of today's Packers news, Packers.com is offering this Breaking News page in lieu of our normal Packers.com site.''

Then they announced that it was a mistake.

A Green Bay Packers spokesperson announced that Favre hasn't made a decision yet whether he will retire or not. Favre's agent, James ''Bus'' Cook, even said that no retirement announcement from his client is imminent.

So what the fuck was the fucking website talking about then?!?

''There's nothing to it,'' Green Bay Packers director of public relations Jeff Blumb said about Favre retiring. ''The people who handle our website set up mock pages. It's as simple as that.''

''A third party was preparing something in case (Favre's retirement) happened. They've done that the last five years.''

Holy sh...

Steven Gerrard PISSED about the Cesspool in Liverpool (Yes, the REDS suck in the English Premiership...)

Yep, it's that time of the year when you'll probably be readin' more about soccer here on OddJack.

And speaking of that little sport that means soccer in the States and football to everybody else, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is pissed about how things went down as far as their team's campaign is concerned in the 2008 English Premier League season.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard claims that at this point of the English football season, only finishing in 4th place is acceptable after the miserable stint the Reds have been having on that pitch lately.

''The Reds,'' otherwise known as Liverpool FC, is currently battling to secure entry into Europe's elite competition next term. As far as the English Premier League is concerned, Liverpool's hopes of lifting the Premier League title by season's end is all but over.

''You don't get any prizes in football for finishing in second place, never mind fourth,'' Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said.

''I don't think that the fans would accept fourth as an accomplishment and for me it's not nearly good enough. We need to improve dramatically and even if we do finish fourth, it doesn't mean we have had a good season.''

''In the position we find ourselves now, fourth is the least that is acceptable. But we have bigger ambitions than that.''

''The only way we can fulfill those ambitions is in the Champions League. And I am not going to pretend that even winning that trophy, and we are a long way away from it at the moment, will make up for the disappointment of the league campaign.''

''I'm pretty gutted every time I look at the table and see the gap between us and Arsenal at the top, and even the gap between us and second and third.''

''We believed we had the players to challenge for the title, and we wanted that one more than any other trophy available to us. I still believe we have the squad to be a hell of a lot more competitive than we are right now.''

Here are the odds from AcesAce Sportsbook on who will win the 2008 UEFA Champions League title.

Anderson Silva - Dan Henderson for Pride of a Champion

Yes, we'll pretend we know something about this mixed martial arts thing.

In case you didn't know, UFC 82: Pride of a Champion will be this Saturday to kick off the brand new month of March. And although we can't wait to see Manny Pacquiao get his ass kicked on March 15, I guess watching two grown men tear each other apart should suffice for now.

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will be taking on Pride FC welterweight champion Dan Henderson in a battle between two world champions of mixed martial arts entitled UFC 82: Pride of a Champion. Yes, I know what ya'll are thinking, these MMA guys could've came up with a better title for a pay-per-view event than that one.

For some reason, a middleweight fighting a welterweight is not a mismatch in mixed martial arts. Middleweights in the UFC hit at around 185 pounds while welterweights in Pride FC are at 183. The only thing both Anderson Silva and Dan Henderson are probably fighting for is proving which of these two entities is not faker than pro wrestling, the UFC or Pride FC?

Oh yeah, both fighters are fighting to win both the UFC and Pride FC title belts too.

Anderson Silva started in Pride FC before switching to the cages of... well... Cage Rage. There, he became the Cage Rage middleweight champion, although I'm not sure if that means something to the world of mixed martial arts.

He made his debut in the UFC back in 2006, winning his first match in the octagon against Chris Leben. He won the UFC middleweight championship belt from Rich Franklin for only his second stint inside a UFC arena, successfully defending that title thrice.

On the other hand, Dan Henderson made a name for himself in numerous Pride FC events, winning both the Pride FC welterweight and middleweight championship belts. He made his debut in the UFC during UFC 75: Champion vs. Champion, losing to Quinton Jackson.

This Saturday, Henderson hopes he'll finally win his first match inside the octagon although Silva definitely has other plans.

Mark Webber pleads to F1 not to punish Spain

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIn case you've been living under a rock lately, Spain had more than a few racist remarks directed at Lewis Hamilton a few weeks ago.

As a result, the FIA, along with F1 stakeholders, will be launching this ''Racing Against Racism'' campaign this 2008 F1 season. However, as it turns out, the FIA is not stopping there.

After some Spanish fans lashed out some racist remarks directed towards Lewis Hamilton during testing at the Montmelo circuit in Barcelona, the FIA is threatening to have some sanctions against the country.

FIA President Max Mosley is even threatening to pull out the Spanish Grand Prix if Spanish organizers do not do something about the racial incident.

Rising F1 star and Red Bull driver, Mark Webber, on the other hand, believes that punishing the country won't resolve anything.

''If we are professional and organized, that stuff just doesn't get to the front line,'' Mark Webber said. ''The individuals need to be punished but to take it out on the whole sport and the country is wrong.''

''It can be stopped so much further downstream.''

''There were a few guys who were absolutely out of order, and that's what the whole thing has been hung on. You had a lot of fans who were there with their young kids on a Sunday, so why should you stuff it all for them because of a few guys?''

''We need to address it further back. You do not want airport security at a grand prix, where people are checking your bag for excessive amounts of make-up.''

''So how do you draw the line? It's difficult. They need to be able to control the individuals and move on as they do in other cases.''

Bobby Knight to make the coming 2008 March Madness bracket tournament even more MADDER

Bobby Knight, you know him, he's the former head coach from Texas Tech who swears more than a dying Iraqi.

And in case you didn't know it yet, Bobby Knight is about to do something many people never thought possible. With the 2008 March Madness bracket tournament merely a few more weeks away, Bob Knight is actually... (drum roll please...) joining the very team he hates most, the media.

Yes, you read it people. Former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Bobby Knight is joining the media guys from ESPN to cover the coming college basketball tournament this March. How about that huh?

Knight will serve as a college basketball studio analyst during ESPN's coverage of Championship Week presented by Dick's Sporting Goods. I guess you can say Mr. Knight is becoming the DICK he detests most in the past eh?

The ever lovable Bobby Knight has this to say about his new ''team.''

''I think ESPN has been real good for college basketball and I look forward to working with some of their people who I have known a long time.'' Yes, he actually said ESPN has been real good for college basketball.

At least this guy from ESPN is buying it.

''The information, the entertainment, the sophistication, the knowledge he brings about basketball and issues surrounding basketball, add that to how compelling an individual he is, and it made perfect sense for us to put him on our platforms,'' ESPN executive vice president for production Norby Williamson said.

''It always comes back to, how comfortable they are being themselves. One of the things Bob Knight has demonstrated is he'll be himself,'' Williamson added.

''He's going to have an unbelievable, unmatched work ethic, do his homework and be surrounded by people he's comfortable with. We're in a very good position for him to succeed.''

Yeah, and kill an ESPN intern too.

Who's next to bolt out of New Jersey? Easy. Vince Carter.

Yep, apparently, Vince Carter just can't get himself out of these trade talks the last couple of years.

After getting himself into different trade talks during the last few years of his career, especially when we hit February and the dreaded trading deadline, it's almost certain that everybody from Jersey will be talking about trading Vince Carter now that they've finally completed the deal that bolted Jason Kidd to Phoenix this 2007-08 NBA basketball season .

With the ''Jason Kidd trade drama'' complete, the focus eerily shifts back to VC and although the chance of moving Carter BEFORE the trading deadline is all but over now, the Nets will have the rest of the summer to think about finally trading VC away as well.

I don't know why they keep on thinking about trading a guy like Vince Carter away. But after they traded Jason Kidd to the Dallas Mavericks, clearly the face of the Nets franchise the last few years, I guess I'm not surprised.

Rumors have it that the New Jersey Nets are working a deal with the Indiana Pacers that will send VC to Indianapolis in exchange for Jermaine O'Neal.

Who will benefit on that trade? Nobody. Since both guys spend their time on the injury list more than that paparazzi dude inside Britney Spears.

Other rumors say that the New Jersey Nets are working on a three-way deal that will send VC to the New York Knicks, Eddy Curry to the pathetic Miami Heat and the expiring contracts of Jason Williams and Ricky Davis to Jersey.

Hmm...

What the fuck are those guys from Jersey doing? Trade Vince Carter away after dealing Jason Kidd? Are these sick fucks rebuilding? If they are, this is the most screwed up rebuilding process I've seen in years since Miami decided to draft Dwyane Wade.

Sorry, I had to put my ''bashing Dwyane Wade'' thing in there.

2008 Summer Olympics plans to heat up Beijing, China

seth-edward-oneal.jpgBecause quite frankly, nobody probably gives a flying fuck in the States.

And as far as the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China is concerned, August 8 is the date that will officially kick off the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. The Beijing National Stadium will be the first stop for the highly anticipated event (as far as Asians are concerned...) and will stretch until August 24.

Oh yeah, apparently, Games of the XXIX Olympiad pertains to the 2008 Olympic Games as well but because ''Games of the XXIX Olympiad'' just confuses us if it's the summer Olympic games were talking about here or some event that involves gladiators in Rome, we'll just call it the 2008 Beijing, China Olympic Games mmmkay?

The official logo of the 2008 Olympic Games titled ''Dancing Beijing,'' features a stylized calligraphic character JING (meaning capital), referencing the host city. ''Dancing Beijing'' is a milestone of the Olympics. It serves as a classic chapter of the Olympic epic inscribed by the spirit of the Chinese nation.

The mascots of the Beijing 2008 Olympics are the five Fuwa, each representing one color of the Olympic rings.

Designed to express the playful qualities of five little children who form an intimate circle of friends, the Fuwa also embody the natural characteristics of four of China's most popular animal. Those are the Fish, the Panda, the Tibetan Antelope, the Swallow and the Olympic Flame.

You'll also be seeing the Olympic Rings by August. These five rings; blue, yellow, black, green and red, represent the five parts of the world now encompassed by Olympism (yes, that's a real term...) and ready to compete against each other.

Moreover, the six colors (including the white background) thus combined represent those of all nations, without exception.

The blue and yellow of Sweden, the blue and white of Greece, the French, English, American, German, Belgian, Italian and Hungarian tricolors, the yellow and red of Spain are side by side with the new Brazilian and Australian flags, the old Japan and the new China.

It is a true international emblem. Of course, none of us probably give a shit.

The New England Patriots are technically leaving Randy Moss open for Free Agency in the NFL

FUCK. If these guys don't sign Randy Moss soon, the Giants won't be the only team beating them next season.

The 2008-09 NFL football season is still, well, a LIFETIME away from here. But just because we love football so much up in here, we'll be talking, breathing and of course, writing about football, until the brand new season kicks off in August.

And as far as the New England Patriots are concerned, they haven't signed any big names to add to their powerhouse roster yet, unlike last offseason when they got Randy Moss, Wes Welker and a whole lot more to carry them all the way to Super Bowl XLII.

Instead, the Pats are going to the opposite direction. They are technically leaving Randy Moss, the Pro Bowl wide receiver who just broke the single season record for most touchdowns by a wideout held by Hall-of-Famer Jerry Rice.

Yep, Moss sure had one huge year for the New England Patriots. Despite that, the Pats are not putting the ''franchise tag'' on him just yet, technically leaving the guy to the free agency market.

Apparently, the New England Patriots are gambling that they could come to terms with Randy Moss on a new contract so he can remain with the team. Was this a good move? Well, if Moss receives a better offer from some other team before the Patriots can, it won't be.

And to think Randy Moss restructured his contract just to be with the Pats. You see, he was receiving a whopping $10 million with the Oakland Raiders before cutting it down to $3 million for a chance to play with Tom Brady. Moss received an additional $2 million on incentives after breaking Rice's record but that's still a half less of what he was initially receiving in Oakland.

Tom Brady has already said that he wants Moss back. Moss on the other hand has also indicated that he wants to return with the New England Patriots. So what the fuck are they waiting for? Sign the guy already!

Wladimir Klitschko meet Sultan Ibragimov on Saturday

NO, this is not a meeting between two terrorists.

It's a unification title bout for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight championships. And judging by the weight of those two title belts, two heavy-hitters will collide as IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko fights WBO champion Sultan Ibragimov for the right to be called the undisputed heavyweight king.

For the rest of us, who cares right? After all, the heavyweight division in boxing has been reduced to something that we really don't give a flying fuck anymore since Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis faded away from the ring. And after guys like Wladimir Klitschko started dominating this division, the heavyweight class became nothing more but circus freak shows.

Of course, that won't stop Sultan Ibragimov and Mr. Klitschko from locking fists this Saturday. After all, they are fighting for the right to become the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Let's look at it this way, at least we won't be seeing the irritating Manny Pacquiao right?

Ibragimov is coming to this unification title bout in Madison Square Garden as the smaller guy. By today's standards, Ibragimov at 6'2'', 220 pounds, is small compared to the other heavyweights out there. And when he faces the 6'6'', 245-pound Klitschko come fight night, he'll definitely be the David facing Goliath.

Don't expect that to make him lose his focus though.

''Before I became champion, my goal was to win the title and unify it,'' WBO heavyweight champion Sultan Ibragimov said. ''But when I won the belt, I found no champion willing to fight me. I thank Klitschko for being a true champion and for fighting me. I know we will put on a great show for the fans in the New York and around the world.''

As for Wladimir Klitschko?

''I'm really looking forward to this unification bout. This is what boxing fans around the world want to see.''

Jason Kidd finally traded to the Dallas Mavericks

seth-edward-oneal.jpgFINALLY. Now we can move on with the rest of our lives and enjoy the second half of NBA hoops.

Jason Kidd was finally traded to the Dallas Mavericks a couple of days ago, adding to this series of HUGE trades in the 2007-08 NBA basketball season. And we thought Garnett's exodus to Boston was the BIGGEST trade we'll ever see this year.

With Jason Kidd going back to the team that originally drafted him, the Dallas Mavericks will finally have a prototypical point guard running the offense again since they lost Steve Nash to Phoenix.

Can J-Kidd lead the Dallas Mavericks towards the NBA title? I don't know about that. It remains to be seen too if Kidd's aging legs can still carry a team to the NBA finals. One thing's for sure though, the rest of the Mavericks can expect the basketball coming right at 'em every single time they are on the floor. And that's whether they're open or not.

''I've always felt my teammates are always open,'' Jason Kidd said. ''When you think it's not coming, then that's when it is. It's exciting. It's new. It's different and you don't have time to rest in the West because if you lose a game you can drop a couple spots.''

Yes kid, (pun intended... although you can't really call the guy KID anymore right?..) that's what happens when you're in the West.

Jason Kidd finished the 2008 NBA All-Star Weekend as a member of the New Jersey Nets. When business resumed as usual after the festivities in New Orleans, he found out that he will be playing for Mark Cuban and the rest of the Dallas Mavericks.

''There's no waiting. There's no period of him learning. He's going to jump right in there,'' Dallas Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson said. ''We know what we're going to do and we'll see how it works.''

Can Jarno Trulli TRULY win the 2008 F1 Racing Title once the new F1 season kicks off in Melbourne?

That's a resounding NO. N-O, NO. But for the sake of this story, let's see why he thinks so.

In case you didn't know, the brand new 2008 F1 season is merely a few weeks away with the first race kicking off in Melbourne (as always...) on March 16. Until then, all F1 drivers this season is looking to win the title. Like this guy for example.

Jarno Trulli of Toyota believes their new TF108 is powerful enough to challenge the likes of Renault and BMW. Hell, the guy's so confident that he even believes they can challenge the top dogs as well, that's Ferrari and McLaren - Mercedes, for the 2008 F1 championship.

''I don't know how the others are doing, but it seems to me the Ferrari is really quick,'' Jarno Trulli said. ''Some have said the Championship is already over.''

''The season is long, but if a team like Ferrari start this well it won't be easy to make up the lost ground. I expect Ferrari and McLaren in front, and behind them I hope there can be Toyota too, along with Renault and BMW. I want to believe in it.''

''I think the Ferrari can be around half a second faster than the McLaren, with the others behind. This is just my opinion, it's not based on real data. I think we can do better than last year, which wasn't good for us. First of all let's start over again in a better direction. With a potential like Toyota's great things can be done. We need to believe in it and maybe it'll take time.''

The 33-year-old Trulli is upbeat about the TF108 and only had positive feedback after recent tests.

''I'm happy because the car compared to last year is definitely better," he added. "I'm much more confident: in Bahrain we went rather well, also because we were up against Ferrari, and in my opinion they go really really quick.''

''I'm confident, the team have worked well and the car, as I said in Jerez, is a totally new car and several problems we had last year have been solved. There's more stability, it's easier to work.''

''There are other problems but they can be solved little by little. The basis is definitely better. Now we'll have to carry on developing it throughout the year.''

2008 NBA All-Star Game concludes All-Star Weekend

The beasts of the East going up against the best of the West. Let's pretend these guys will be taking this game seriously this Sunday.

Yes people, the 2008 NBA All-Star Game is this Sunday, the conclusion of the NBA's midseason classic. Five starters each were voted in by the fans to play for the Eastern and Western Conference All-Stars while the reserves for both teams were voted in by the coaches.

Kevin Garnett led all votes but because of an abdominal sprain, he won't be participating anything with the rest of the 2008 NBA Eastern Conference All-Stars. Other starters voted in by the fans are Jason Kidd, Dwyane Wade, (yes, they made the mistake of voting in this guy again...) Dwight Howard and of course, LeBron James.

Three Detroit Pistons starters were picked as reserves; Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace. They will be joined by Ray Allen, Chris Bosh, Antawn Jamison, Joe Johnson and Paul Pierce. Caron Butler was also picked as a reserve but because of an injury, Butler pulled out.

The 2008 NBA Western Conference All-Stars will be led by Yao Ming, the leading vote-getter in the West. Yao will be joined by Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony and last but certainly not the least, Allen Iverson, who is starting for the Western All-Stars for the first time since moving from the East.

Carlos Boozer, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Amare Stoudemire will participate as reserves for the West and will be joined by first-time All-Stars David West, Brandon Roy and Chris Paul.

Through the 2008 NBA All-Star Balloting program, fans worldwide were responsible for voting in the starters for the 57th NBA All-Star Game, which will be played in New Orleans on Sunday, February 17. The game will air live on TNT, ESPN Radio and in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

The only thing left to do now is hope these guys will take this game seriously. Enjoy.

Super Bowl XLIII is in Tampa. Can Patriots win THAT?

seth-edward-oneal.jpgOf course, that is STILL a long long LOOONG way from here but hey, since we love football so much, we're already giving you the odds.

In case you missed it, Super Bowl XLII was won by the New York Giants, stunning the New England Patriots 17-14 to become probably the most unlikely world champions in NFL history. (Puh-lease, don't give me that ''I knew Eli Manning would win it since day one'' bullshit...)

The biggest game in American sports now returns to Florida with Super Bowl XLIII to be held in Tampa. The last time the Super Bowl was here, the Indianapolis Colts beat the Chicago Bears to give Peyton Manning his first championship ring at Super Bowl XLI.

Both Peyton and Eli Manning have their Super Bowl championship rings now. So, is it safe to say that the New England Patriots could finally win it again? Oh I'm really hoping for that people. I really do.

The New England Patriots should do no worse than a 14-2 season. Hell, they went 18-0 last season before that horrific tragedy at Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Arizona. Sure, losing to the New York Giants was one HUGE mishap, but if they keep their receiving corps of Randy Moss and Wes Welker next season, they should still be the heavy favorites to win the 2009 championship.

Of course, the San Diego Chargers should still be right in the thick of things as far as the title chase is concerned. For two straight seasons, the Chargers had a solid chance of winning the Super Bowl and I don't see any reasons why that should change.

In the NFC, I'm expecting the Dallas Cowboys to finally break through the divisional round and someway, somehow, get to Super Bowl XLIII. Yeah sure, we watched Tony Romo crumble under pressure the last two times the Cowboys got there, botching a snap in what would've been a game winning field goal against the Seattle Seahawks in 2007 and failing to come up with a first down when they needed it against the New York Giants this year.

If Tony Romo crumbles under pressure again, I reckon the Cowboys will send his ass to Mexico faster than FedEx.

Which teams from the Eastern Conference and Western Conference will meet in the 2008 NBA Finals?

Right now, it's anybody's guess.

But since we already have all sorts of trades surrounding the 2007-08 NBA basketball season, we couldn't help but make our early predictions already. And as much as J.J. Jack continues to root for his Detroit Pistons, there won't be any Pistons in my dream NBA Finals match-up.

Teams on both the Eastern and Western Conference have made their significant moves before the trading deadline. There's this blockbuster trade in the wild wild West, sending Shaquille O'Neal to the Phoenix Suns from the Miami Heat for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks after the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Pau Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Kwame Brown and Javaris Crittenton.

In the Eastern Conference, the New Jersey Nets got Stromile Swift for Jason Collins in hopes of shaking things up a bit in the East. Of course, when you talk about the East, none is still bigger than the moves the Boston Celtics made before this season that landed them BOTH Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

That was a series of deals that instantly made the Boston Celtics from whipping biys to title contenders. And in case you didn't get that, YES, the Boston Celtics will be in the 2008 NBA Finals.

We saw how the ''Big Three'' of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen changed the once losers in the East to become an instant title contender in a relatively soft conference. The Boston Celtics just might be THAT good to finish the season with a 67-15 record.

While I probably have my title contenders set in the East, it's a toss up in the West. Will Shaquille O'Neal fit in with the Phoenix Suns and get the team over the hump to finally reach the NBA Finals or will Pau Gasol be the missing piece towards a title for the Los Angeles Lakers?

I'd say this though, whoever comes out of the West will have a run for their money facing the Eastern Conference's three-headed monster.

Revenge for Jermain Taylor against Kelly Pavlik Saturday?

That should be the mindset Mr. Bad Intentions should be in this Saturday.

Because the last time Jermain ''Bad Intentions'' Taylor met Kelly Pavlik inside the squared circle, Taylor's career changed in a blink of an eye. He he... Who knew Pavlik will come back strong to shock the world after being dominated by Taylor in the first two rounds of their first meeting?

Jermain Taylor, then defending his middleweight championship title for the fifth time in Atlantic City, New Jersey last September 29, knocked Kelly Pavlik down in the second round. He knocked Pavlik down so bad that the referee ALMOST stopped the fight right then and there.

Thankfully, referee Steve Smoger didn't. Kelly Pavlik survived and all of a sudden, Taylor just couldn't follow up on his round two knockout blow. Hell, Mr. Bad Intentions couldn't even land another clean shot.

''There was a minute, 45 [seconds] left in that round when I went down and there wasn't another knockdown,'' Kelly Pavlik said. ''And then not only couldn't he stop me but he wasn't able to really knock me down again. And he was trying. I mean he was swinging for the fences.''

''At the end of the second round, I figured I had Kelly Pavlik beat,'' Jermain Taylor said. ''He was hanging on to me. Could barely stand up. Staggering around. It was over, at least, I thought it was. The problem was, I was out of gas, too.''

Jermain Taylor was still ahead in all three scorecards and if that fight ended without a knockout, Taylor would've won it via unanimous decision. Unfortunately, Kelly Pavlik had other plans. Pavlik refused to let the judges determine the outcome of the fight as he came up with a shocking seventh-round knockout to win the WBC middleweight championship of the world.

''I think about it all the time,'' Jermain Taylor admitted, referring to his loss to Kelly Pavlik. ''What comes into my head is how I could have trained harder to finish him off in the second round. All the should haves, could haves in the world is not going to change anything.''

Taylor will have the opportunity to change things on Saturday. That is if he can put an end to this great white hope.

Slam Dunks will highlight 2008 NBA All-Star Saturday

seth-edward-oneal.jpgIt's this Saturday people, when everybody gets to enjoy the break before everybody goes back to business again.

It's the 2008 NBA All-Star weekend people and we will kick things off with All-Star Saturday. Of course, the Sprite Slam Dunk contest will be the highlight of the night as usual but because there's really nothing much to write about the weekend's festivities in New Orleans, we'll just fill you in on what to expect.

First, we have the Haier Shooting Stars contest where Bill Laimbeer, Chauncey Billups and Swin Cash defend the title they won last year by default after the Chicago Bulls took their shots out of order in the final round.

Next up, we have the PlayStation Skills Challenge where Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade will try to bring light to a rather fucked up 2007-08 NBA basketball season.

Yeah, I know, what goes down in the All-Star weekend doesn't, in any way, affect any of the stuff you do in the regular season but because the Miami Heat just plain suck lately, Dwyane Wade winning this one should probably give the rest of the sick fucks from Miami a reason to smile a little bit.

Dwyane Wade will be defending his title at the 2008 NBA All-Star PlayStation Skills Challenge against three of the best prototypical point guards in the game. (Yup, I don't know what the fuck a guy like Wade, obviously not a prototypical point guard, is doing here...)

New Orleans Hornets star Chris Paul, Jason Kidd of (if he's still a Net by then...) the New Jersey Nets and Utah Jazz ''power'' point guard Deron Williams, will be challenging Wade for his title.

Of course, the 2008 NBA All-Star Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout will also be there as well. Jason Kapono won it last year as a member of the Miami Heat. He will be trying to defend his title as a member of the streaking Toronto Raptors this time in New Orleans.

Daniel Gibson of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Peja Stojakovic of the New Orleans Hornets, Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki and Richard Hamilton of the Detroit Pistons will be challenging Kapono for the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout title.

And FINALLY, the 2008 NBA All-Star Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.

Gerald Green will be looking to defend his title in New Orleans. He won it last year as a member of the Boston Celtics. Now with the Minnesota Timberwolves, he'll be looking to win the slam dunk contest for the second straight time.

Toronto Raptors rookie Jamario Moon, rising star Rudy Gay of the Memphis Grizzlies and Orlando Magic powerhouse Dwight Howard will be challenging Green for his title.

Who will win the 2008 NBA All-Star Sprite Slam Dunk contest? Bodog Sportsbook has the odds.

Dwight Howard 3.00

Gerald Green 3.60

Jamario Moon 3.90

Rudy Gay 4.00

This just shows that the FIA loves McLaren - Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton coming to the 2008 F1 Season

After all, they are launching this ''Racing Against Racism'' campaign all for the guy.

You read it people, the FIA, including all Formula One stakeholders that includes teams, drivers, circuits and national sporting authorities will be launching a ''Racing Against Racism'' campaign this 2008 F1 season as a result of the racial abuse Lewis Hamilton suffered in Barcelona.

In case you didn't know, almost the entire country of Spain started hating on Lewis Hamilton after he fucked Fernando Alonso up in McLaren. You see, Fernando Alonso was almost certain he will be the man in McLaren after arriving from Renault last season.

He never anticipated that a young British driver named Lewis Hamilton will be having such an awesome rookie season with the team. The rest was history as Hamilton pissed Alonso so much that he opted to return to Renault and leave McLaren to Hamilton.

In a practice session in Barcelona, weeks before the 2008 F1 season kicks off, Lewis Hamilton found out just how pissed the entire country of Spain is of him after ''dissing'' their hero, Fernando.

Almost every kind of racist remark was thrown at the McLaren - Mercedes ace driver every single time he made his way towards pit lane at the Montmelo circuit in Barcelona. As a result, the FIA came up with the idea of this campaign that will protect one of F1's prized young icons.

''The FIA was appalled by the scenes of racist abuse targeted at Lewis Hamilton,'' an FIA spokesperson said. ''Such behavior runs counter to the fundamental principles of equality enshrined in the FIA's statutes.''

''Formula One is a global, multi-cultural sport and has never encountered such scenes before and will not tolerate them in future.''

''International motorsport can reach a huge global audience to send out positive messages of racial and sporting equality. We will be encouraging all those involved in motorsport to support our new campaign, from recent World Champions to the next generation of potential champions at the grass roots of our sport.''

Best of AFC and NFC meet at the 2008 NFL Pro Bowl

Yes people, this is the last football game we'll probably be watching until August. Too bad ain't it?

And although I'm still reeling from that horrific tragedy that transpired at Super Bowl XLII, when the New England Patriots lost to the New York Giants, 17-14, I'll still be rooting for my guys at the 2008 NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii. And in this case, the AFC, home of the IMPERFECT Patriots.

Unfortunately, the New England Patriots didn't took it well when they lost to New York. That's why NONE of those guys will be participating in the last football game of the football season. Yes, no Tom Brady touchdown plays, no Randy Moss celebrations in the endzone and of course, none of Bill Belichick's spying cameras.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning SHOULD start in place of Brady for the AFC Conference. They could've gone to that other quarterback who made it to the AFC championship game, that being Philip Rivers, but I guess the NFL doesn't want to see this guy trash talking until August.

One member of the San Diego Chargers who should get the majority of the carries in Hawaii is former NFL Most Valuable Player of the Year, LaDainian Tomlinson. Unfortunately, there are rumors that he too has pulled out. THAT means another Colt will be taking another player's place and this time, it's Colts HB Joseph Addai.

Last but certainly not the least, with Patriots wideout Randy Moss pulling out of the Pro Bowl in Hawaii as well, yet another Colt SHOULD take his place in the starting lineup, that being Reggie Wayne. Isn't it funny how these Colts will make the starting lineup for the Pro Bowl?

While it could probably be a ''Colts show,'' if you will, in the AFC, that is simply not the case in the NFC Conference.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck should take Brett Favre's place as starting NFC quarterback while the amazing rookie of the Minnesota Vikings, Adrian Peterson, won the starting running back spot of the team.

Terrell Owens and Larry Fitzgerald will be catching footballs for the ''less talented'' conference.

Which team from the AFC and the NFC will win the 2008 NFL Pro Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii? AcesAce Sportsbook has the odds.

Is Pau Gasol the missing piece for a Lakers championship?

seth-edward-oneal.jpgOh yes, Pau Gasol is now a Laker.

Two days before the biggest tragedy in sports transpired at the Super Bowl, the Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a fast one. They just acquired the services of Pau Gasol after sending the complete seven-foot failure Kwame Brown, rookie Javaris Crittenton, veteran Aaron McKie and two draft picks to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for the Spanish titan in the 2008 NBA basketball season.

Is Pau Gasol the missing piece for a title in Tinseltown? We still have a half of NBA basketball until we figure that one out. One thing's for sure though, the Lakers will definitely be better.

People have always talked about the key in Phil Jackson's triangle offense is a good center who can either shoot it at the low-post or dish it to one of the triangle's scoring guards. I'ma tell ya'll this now, the Los Angeles Lakers signed the perfect man for the job.

''The best part is that right away I will have a chance to win,'' Pau Gasol said. ''We have the opportunity to go out there and accomplish something great and something special.''

The trade finally SAVED Pau Gasol from Memphis, a city who has a team calling themselves Grizzlies despite the fact that there really are no Grizzlies whatsoever in Memphis. Oh yeah, these Grizzlies just keep on losing too.

''I always consider myself a winner and a competitor, and the last few years in Memphis, I haven't been able to achieve my goals team-wise. It's been frustrating, but that's the kind of situation I was in.''

''At first I had the impression that the Grizzlies, or [owner Michael] Heisley, were asking only, like, star for star [in a trade]. If I was going to go to the Lakers, there's no way that Kobe Bryant would go to Memphis. It was just too complicated.''

''I was shocked when I got the news after practice,'' Gasol said. ''I was surprised, and now I'm starting to digest everything that's gone on and going to come from now on. I'm definitely excited about everything.''

''I'm happy to be a Laker.''

Jermain Taylor has Bad Intentions for Kelly Pavlik on February 16 when he goes for the WBC Middleweight Title

Probably because Taylor is just itching to have his revenge after Pavlik knocked the daylights out of him the last time they met.

It's on in Las Vegas on February 16 when Jermain ''Bad Intentions'' Taylor looks to reclaim the very title he lost to now World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion of the world, Kelly Pavlik. It's a rematch Taylor was probably looking for after losing his title. Let's hope he doesn't get his ass knocked down this time.

The date was September 29, 2007, when a virtual unknown named Kelly Pavlik shocked the world by coming up with a 7th round knockout over Jermain Taylor to become the new WBC middleweight world champion.

Now that everybody knows the name Kelly Pavlik, boxing fans are probably eager to see whether Pavlik's win over Taylor was just a mere fluke or not.

WBC middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik has a perfect 32-0 record, 29 by way of knock out. Pavlik can bang with both hands and his classic right cross is an equalizer in almost every encounter. The best thing about Kelly Pavlik is that when he is on, he sets up his attack with hard left jabs and the combinations flow off of the basic maneuver.

Often creating opportunities for his right cross, letting him able to close the deal.

''I'm just as hungrier, maybe hungrier, my goal wasn't just to win the title and then that was it. I have a lot more I want to do. I still want to keep getting better,'' WBC middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik said.

Jermain Taylor, on the other hand, is a classic boxer-puncher that controls and eventually dominates his fights with a talented left jab that sets up his combinations and his devastating right cross. Taylor likes to buzz people with his right uppercut in close quarters. He is an exceptionally strong and well-conditioned athlete who maintains his balance and sets up his attack with workman-like lateral movement.

Of course, Jermain Taylor will be trying to bounce back from his humbling defeat to current middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik, making this February 16 bout in Vegas a fight you shouldn't miss.

Red Sox in MLB baseball add more problems for Boston

Boston sure is taking quite a dive the last couple of weeks.

After probably reaching the highest pinnacle in sports, with the Boston Red Sox winning the 2007 MLB World Series, the New England Patriots going undefeated before Super Bowl XLII and the Boston Celtics dominating the league with their ridiculously talented revamped lineup, it was all downhill since.

And heading to the 2008 MLB baseball season, it looks like Boston still has one more to be mournful about. Curt Schilling, the superstar pitcher of the Boston Red Sox, is hurt merely a few more weeks before the baseball season kicks off. Cruel huh?

After the New England Revolution (that's Boston's soccer team in MLS soccer...) and the New England Patriots both choking in their respective championship games, the city dubbed as ''title town'' started having all sorts of adversity lately and this problem within the Boston Red Sox camp is the last thing the city needs right now.

Hell, after all that hype surrounding every single Boston sports franchise this year, the Boston Red Sox are the only ones who have lived up to it. The Boston Celtics you say? Until Kevin Garnett comes back from his injury and become the dominant player that he is, I wouldn't go ga-ga over the Celtics again just yet.

As far as Curt Schilling is concerned, the Boston Red Sox veteran is suffering from a shoulder injury that just might pull him out of the Red Sox rotation for the 2008 MLB baseball season.

Uh oh...

''Curt Schilling was examined by Red Sox doctors in January after he reported feeling right shoulder discomfort,'' the Boston Red Sox said in a statement. ''Curt has started a program of rest, rehabilitation and shoulder strengthening in an attempt to return to pitching.''

He BETTER return. Heck, the Red Sox organization is paying him $8 million this year.

2008 NASCAR Season kicks off with 50th Daytona 500

seth-edward-oneal.jpgRednecks shall rejoice again.

With football over and baseball still a few more weeks away, the 2008 NASCAR season can probably give these nigger-hatin' rednecks something else to watch other than watching ten black dudes run around a basketball court. Yes, for some reason, they hate niggers that bad.

The 50th running of the Daytona 500 will officially kick off the new NASCAR season on February 17 at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Yup, you'll sure hear a lot of ''Daytona'' on the 17th that you just might unintentionally name your next child ''Daytona'' for crying out loud. How cool would that be right?

The 2008 Daytona 500 will be the 50th annual running of ''The Great American Race,'' as NASCAR celebrates the Golden Anniversary of the event's very first race in 1959, won by NASCAR driver Lee Petty. To commemorate the 2008 Daytona 500 event, the Harley J. Earl Trophy, which goes to the winner of the race, will be plated in gold instead of silver.

Three drivers lead the pack as early favorites to win the 2008 Daytona 500.

Defending Nextel Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson is listed as a 6/1 favorite. Johnson has 33 wins in six full-time seasons under his belt. He has proven to be a worthy successor to Jeff Gordon at Hendrick Motorsports, edging his mentor for the 2007 championship. Jimmie Johnson is the only driver to have won three consecutive Coca-Cola 600s. And in 2007, he became the first driver since 1998 to win four races in a row.

Hendrick Motorsports Teammates Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are all listed as 9/2 favorites to win the 50th running of Daytona. This will be Dale Earnhardt's first year with Hendrick Motorsports after leaving DEI at the conclusion of the 2007 season.

Jeff Gordon became the youngest Daytona 500 winner in history when he led a 1-2-3 sweep in 1997, with ailing owner Rick Hendrick calling on his cell phone in Victory Lane. Two years later, Gordon made a daring pass of Rusty Wallace to win the Daytona 500 a second time, and added win No.3 in 2005 by holding off Kurt Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the race's first green-white-checkered finish.

Who will win the 50th running of the Daytona 500? Bodog Sportsbook has the odds.

Jimmie Johnson 7.00

Can Jamario Moon knock the daylights out of his rivals at the 2008 NBA All-Star Sprite Slam Dunk Contest?

Let me get his one out first, I just might name my kid Jamario Moon someday.

Now that THAT is out of the way, yes, Jamario Moon will be competing at the 2008 NBA All-Star Sprite Slam Dunk contest. Don't know who Jamario Moon is? Well, I don't blame you. I didn't either.

Jamario Moon, after being passed up in the 2001 NBA Draft went playing for different teams in different leagues. Jeez... This guy has been traveling so much, switching from team to team that even Jamario himself can't remember where the fuck he has been all these years.

Well, he may have found a home in Toronto this 2008 NBA basketball season, having a solid rookie year with averages of 7.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

Sure, those numbers may not be all that much compared to a Vince Carter or a Kevin Garnett but hey, those numbers are terrific for a guy who was not drafted by any team seven years ago.

Oh yeah, did I mention that he can dunk the ball?

The Toronto Raptors ''aging rookie'' will be entering the 2008 NBA All-Star Sprite Slam Dunk contest and according to Jamario, he already has something planned. That's what he told NBA.com anyway when they asked him what will he do in the Sprite Slam Dunk contest.

Er... Dunk the ball? Puh-lease guys, the next time you ask someone what will he be doing in a slam dunk contest, please think things through first and go through the questions with some colleague or something.

They also asked Jamario Moon what's it like to finally play in the NBA.

''It is a dream come true. It is like I am living in a movie. So I am just trying to keep doing what I am doing and make the movie better.''

Who'll win Super Bowl XLII? The Patriots or the Giants?

It's ON in Glendale, Arizona people and this year, we have the Patriots and the Giants at the Super Bowl.

Of course, you must've heard about that one by now. And in case you haven't, people are buying Super Bowl XLII tickets like crazy to see the STILL perfect New England Patriots play the red hot New York Giants at the biggest stage in all of American football.

The New England Patriots are in pursuit of perfection. They haven't lost a game this season and on February 13, they have the opportunity to finish undefeated with a Super Bowl ring.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is playing the best football of his career. He is the NFL Most Valuable Player of the Year after setting a record for most TDs by a quarterback in a single season. He also helped his wideout, Randy Moss, set the record for most TDs in a single season by a wide receiver, surpassing the Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.

And oh yes, Tom Brady also helped the Patriots to have this undefeated mean streak they will be bringing to Glendale.

The New York Giants, on the other hand, are also in pursuit of perfection somewhat. They haven't loss a single game AWAY from Giants stadium since they lost at home to the Dallas Cowboys back in Week 1.

Eli Manning helped the Giants become the playoffs' road warriors, beating every single home team they've faced in the playoffs. They beat the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay, they beat the Cowboys in Dallas and they beat the Packers in the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field in Green Bay to win the 2008 NFC championship, earning their ticket to Super Bowl XLII.

Yes, Super Bowl XLII could be a match-up between the most dominant team of the league and the hottest team of the season. This should be a good one folks and not even any of the silly, crap-load of commercial breaks can ruin this one.

Who should you pick? Of course, the Patriots. But as dominant as this team has been in beating EVERYBODY, they haven't been that good in beating the spread. So I guess I'll just leave ya'll with a ''BET AT YOUR OWN RISK'' and a good luck.

Who will win Super Bowl XLII? Bodog sportsbook has the odds on who will win Super Bowl XLII between the Patriots and the Giants in Glendale, Arizona.
