Anderson Silva - Dan Henderson for Pride of a Champion
Yes, we'll pretend we know something about this mixed martial arts thing.
In case you didn't know, UFC 82: Pride of a Champion will be this Saturday to kick off the brand new month of March. And although we can't wait to see Manny Pacquiao get his ass kicked on March 15, I guess watching two grown men tear each other apart should suffice for now.
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will be taking on Pride FC welterweight champion Dan Henderson in a battle between two world champions of mixed martial arts entitled UFC 82: Pride of a Champion. Yes, I know what ya'll are thinking, these MMA guys could've came up with a better title for a pay-per-view event than that one.
For some reason, a middleweight fighting a welterweight is not a mismatch in mixed martial arts. Middleweights in the UFC hit at around 185 pounds while welterweights in Pride FC are at 183. The only thing both Anderson Silva and Dan Henderson are probably fighting for is proving which of these two entities is not faker than pro wrestling, the UFC or Pride FC?
Oh yeah, both fighters are fighting to win both the UFC and Pride FC title belts too.
Anderson Silva started in Pride FC before switching to the cages of... well... Cage Rage. There, he became the Cage Rage middleweight champion, although I'm not sure if that means something to the world of mixed martial arts.
He made his debut in the UFC back in 2006, winning his first match in the octagon against Chris Leben. He won the UFC middleweight championship belt from Rich Franklin for only his second stint inside a UFC arena, successfully defending that title thrice.
On the other hand, Dan Henderson made a name for himself in numerous Pride FC events, winning both the Pride FC welterweight and middleweight championship belts. He made his debut in the UFC during UFC 75: Champion vs. Champion, losing to Quinton Jackson.
This Saturday, Henderson hopes he'll finally win his first match inside the octagon although Silva definitely has other plans.
