Former Yankees Manager, Joe Torre, now with Dodgers
Yep, in what turned out to be the end of probably one of the better eras in baseball, Joe Torre left the Yankees and now will be joining the Dodgers.
After the New York Yankees lost to the Cleveland Indians in their American League division series, these Yanks lost a whole lot more when Joe Torre refused to take a pay cut to extend his career in New York for at least one more year.
Now, it looks like Joe Torre will be trying to continue his somewhat stellar career as a manager in Tinseltown, taking the then vacant managerial position with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers only have one playoff win since winning the World Series back in 1988. LA fans hope that the arrival of Joe Torre will finally put the Dodgers back to title contention.
''The expectations are high here,'' Joe Torre said. ''I think we're going to make everybody proud of the product we put on the field.''
Joe Torre replaces Grady Little as the head honcho in the Dodger dugout.
''I didn't sleep all night,'' Torre said. ''It's just a great feeling to be here. This is one of a handful of organizations you automatically say yes to.''
Joe Torre, now 67 years old, won big in New York City, leading the New York Yankees to FOUR World Series titles, six American League pennants and multiple playoff appearances all in 12 years as manager. It remains to be seen whether Torre can do the exact same thing to this Dodgers team.
''I have a sense we're all going to pull in the same direction. My job as a manager, it's all about communication. It's listening to players, try to understand, make sense,'' Torre said. ''That's my job, to make sure we have a direction to go in.''
''I just do the best I can and that's all I ask of my players.''
