Buccaneers lost their broken Cadillac for the NFL season
Ugh... Jon Gruden is probably in one of his famous grimaces right about now. He always grimaces anyway.
This one though should give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach a heckuva' reason to do just that. The Bucs are at a promising 3-1 start to the 2007-08 NFL football season and perhaps the only thing that might take them out of this momentum is the fact that they lost ''Cadillac'' Carnell Williams for the rest of the goddamn year.
Jon Gruden, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, revealed that his star running back, along with tackle Luke Petitgout, is out with season-ending knee surgeries. Gruden put what his team lost in one sentence. ''You lose a lot of skill.''
Carnell ''Cadillac'' Williams is Tampa's leading rusher since he entered the NFL as a first-round pick in 2005. He suffered a torn right patella tendon after an 18-yard run in the first quarter of their game against the Carolina Panthers. For what it's worth, the Bucs won, 20-7, and should now stick with what they do best with their running back out, keep Jeff Garcia throwing the football.
Hell, they don't have much of a choice anyway.
Yup, they don't have a choice with the matter and Jon Gruden knows, after watching the Philadelphia Eagles play without their tackle and star running back last Sunday, that losing key guys in your offense is hard.
''Watching Philadelphia play without their left tackle and without their running back, it's not an easy thing to overcome,'' Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden said. ''Experience and production at those positions is something an offense relies on.''
The Buccaneers tried to compensate by attempting to sign free agent and former New England Patriots running back, Corey Dillon.
Dillon's agent, Steve Feldman, confirmed that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers contacted him the moment their Cadillac went down. Feldman then asked Corey Dillon if he's interested in making a return to football with the Buccaneers.
Dillon's response? A resounding NO.
