Can Lewis Hamilton win F1 world title in China?

seth-edward-oneal.jpgYep, that's what we will be having in China people.

With only two more races to go before the 2007 F1 season closes, a win by Lewis Hamilton in China will crown him the first ever rookie driver to win the F1 title. That, however, is easier said than done.

For all ya'll who don't know, there's quite a controversy surrounding the way Lewis Hamilton won the Japanese Grand Prix last Sunday. Apparently, third place man Sebastian Vettel accidentally drove into the back of Mark Webber after Lewis Hamilton slowed down when the safety car was deployed due to Fernando Alonso's crash.

Although the incident was missed by cameras, it is believed new evidence, thought to be footage on YouTube filmed from the grandstand at the Fuji Speedway, shows Hamilton pulling over to the right-hand side of the track and decelerating considerably prior to the collision, in turn forcing Webber to slow down and thus catching Vettel.

Now, Lewis Hamilton is facing the possibility that he will be handed a rather disappointing penalty that will see him move down 10 grid places for the 2007 Chinese Grand Prix.

Ouch.

That could probably deny Hamilton from scoring ANY championship point in China on Sunday and thus, giving the rest of the field still a striking chance of the world title.

Of course, Fernando Alonso, who is currently in second place for the world title, absolutely loves the idea. He is trailing his rookie teammate (who he hates the most...) by 12 points with only 20 more points available into the season.

If Hamilton fails to finish in the top 8 this Sunday, he'll be staying with the 107 points he has now. Whereas if Fernando Alonso wins in China, Alonso will only be trailing him by two points heading to the final race of the season in Brazil.

Who will win the 2007 F1 championship? Bodog has the odds.

Kimi Raikkonen 7/4

Fernando Alonso 7/4

Lewis Hamilton 9/2

Felipe Massa 5/2
