Alonso thinks Hamilton's win in Canada was luck

seth-edward-oneal.jpgAnd to think he's Lewis Hamilton's McLaren teammate eh?

After the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix paved way for the new Lewis Hamilton era in Formula One, two-time defending F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso thinks his teammate's win was lucky.

The F1 race in Montreal, Canada was one chaotic weekend indeed. A number of F1 drivers banged their cars to the wall, leading to the appearance of the safety car a number of times during the race.

Heck, the appearance of the safety car last Sunday was already MORE than the number of times we saw it at this point of the 2007 F1 season. For what it's worth, Lewis Hamilton fans think the deployment of the safety car in Montreal ALMOST robbed Hamilton of his first career win in F1.

His jealous McLaren - Mercedes teammate, Fernando Alonso, thinks otherwise.

''Very good but very lucky,'' Fernando Alonso said after the race in Canada. ''It was a strange race with the safety car being deployed so many times which worked to Lewis' advantage today and my disadvantage.''

After being given a stop-go penalty for pitting during the first deployment of the safety car, (the safety car got out FOUR TIMES last Sunday...) the Spaniard finished a lowly seventh at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix and reacted somewhat irritated when asked to comment on his McLaren teammate's victory.

While the two-time defending F1 World Champion, Fernando Alonso was indeed unfortunate to be penalized given that his ''only other option was to stop on track with no fuel,'' his assessment of the race is somewhat myopic to say the least.

The young Lewis Hamilton already possessed a sizeable lead over the double World Champion after Alonso's botched attempt to overtake the youngster around the first corner, an error that the Spaniard repeated throughout the race. Moreover, each appearance of the safety car meant that Hamilton had to re-establish his lead and offered his rivals an unearned route back into the race.

I don't know what the fuck this stupid Spaniard is talking about.

''It seemed like every time I opened up a bit of a gap the safety car came out and I had to start all over again,'' Alonso said. ''Each time the tires and brakes get cold. It is so easy to put it into the wall in those situations. But I held it together until the end.''

Can Fernando Alonso win the 2007 U.S. Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 17? Bodog has the odds.

Lewis Hamilton 13/8

Fernando Alonso 3/2

Kimi Raikkonen 4/1

Felipe Massa 4/1
