A Sharper Viking against Favre and the Packers
That's what Darren Sharper is aiming to be when his Vikings take on the red-hot Packers.
It seems the Green Bay Packers have one thing in mind this 2007-08 NFL football season, and that's to give the ultimate Packer, Brett Favre, one huge hurrah before he walks away from the game for good. Well, Favre does this for three straight years now anyway only to postpone retirement before the next season begins but still...
With the Green Bay Packers sitting at a 7-1 record, the cheeseheads are looking quite good in representing the NFC at Super Bowl XLII. As of press time, they are the team to beat in the conference with the Cowboys just waiting for them to blink.
They have the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday and these Vikings know how good the Packers are playing at this point of the season. They know too that Packers QB, Brett Favre is playing some of the best football of his career and for Minnesota's sake, a former Packer says he'll be ready for No.4 when it's time to play.
Yep, former Packer, Darren Sharper, now playing safety for the Minnesota Vikings, says he'll be ready when Favre decides to throw those long balls over their defense. The Vikings safety has seen the highlights of his former teammate completing touchdown passes of 79, 82 and 60 yards in the Packers' most recent victories at Denver and Kansas City and if there's somebody who can neutralize that in Minnesota, it would have to be him.
''Some of the throws he's making, I just hope he tries that against us,'' Darren Sharper said. ''Those 50-yard balls over the middle of the field, we'll see how much success he has.''
Darren Sharper played with Brett Favre for eight straight seasons in Green Bay. Favre led the Packers to the Super Bowl in 1997 when Sharper was a rookie. Them facing off again in opposite teams should be interesting.
I'd still bet on the Packers though.
