Gilbert Arenas' consolation is NBA Live 2008 cover

Yep, he missed the 2007 NBA playoffs this year, but hell, he's EA Sports' NBA Live 2008 cover boy and he couldn't care less about the postseason.

He he... Yep, Gilbert Arenas, despite a disappointing end to what has been a break-out season for good 'ol Gilby, has played well enough to earn him the cover of EA Sports' annual but not cursed... YET, NBA Live video game series.

Gilbert Arenas is on the cover of NBA Live 2008 and as much as Gilby wants it to mean something more, it doesn't. It just means he's the NBA player featured in the game while his Washington Wizards got their asses kicked in the 2007 NBA playoffs.

Well, for what it's worth, Gilbert Arenas is happy. After all, it's not everyday you become the cover athlete of one of EA Sports' well-marketed sports video games.

''This is a dream come true,'' said Arenas. ''I'm a huge gamer and have been playing NBA Live since 1995. I never imagined that I would see my face on the cover of an EA SPORTS video game.''

Hmm... Sounds like that's all these sports athletes long for these days.

Gilbert Arenas finished the 2006-07 NBA regular season averaging 28.4 points and 6.0 assists per game. Arenas was the first player from the 2001 draft class to be named to the All-Star team in 2005 and now has three consecutive all-star appearances to his credit.

In the ultimate salute to his climb from relative unknown to NBA All-Star, fans voted Arenas a starter on the Eastern Team at the 2007 NBA All-Star Game. And yep, he joins other NBA Live cover athletes like Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter after becoming the cover boy of NBA Live 2008.

Yep, it sure was one heckuva' season for good 'ol Gilby. From all of his 30-plus point-performances to his game-winners at the buzzer, Arenas sure has made the 2006-07 NBA season a spectacle to watch.

It's a shame Gilbert Arenas couldn't help his Washington Wizards in the postseason.

Who will win the 2007 NBA Championship? Here are some odds from Bodog:

Detroit Pistons 9/2

New Jersey Nets 40/1

Phoenix Suns 3/1
