An ugly MLS debut for David Beckham with L.A. Galaxy

seth-edward-oneal.jpgAfter weeks of anticipation for Beckham's official debut with the Galaxy in MLS soccer, the fans finally got what they wanted, sort of.

Yep, David Beckham finally played Thursday in his first official game with the Los Angeles Galaxy in MLS soccer against D.C. United. The RFK Stadium was packed, all hoping Beckham will finally show. And when he did, Beckham's team couldn't even muster a single goal.

In case you didn't get that, David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy lost to D.C. United, 1-0. Ugh... Definitely NOT the way David Beckham wanted to make his highly anticipated MLS debut eh?

For what it's worth, David Beckham is happy to finally play for the team that's paying him all this dough. ''It felt a lot better tonight than it has for a while,'' David Beckham said. ''It's difficult after eight weeks doing hardly anything, but I was happy to be back on the field tonight.''

The people in RFK Stadium simply went nuts when David Beckham entered the pitch. Heck, everybody was taking pictures every single time Beckham handled the ball. They sure were happy alright, despite the fact that Becks only entered the fixture in the 71st minute.

Yep, the guy only played for 21 minutes. How's that for value for your dollar?

The Los Angeles Galaxy was shut out for the second-straight game, which makes you wonder if getting David Beckham from Real Madrid was the right thing to do. Well, the team IS selling even more jerseys now so I guess it's OK.

But the 2007 MLS soccer season is not about who's selling the most jerseys (hopefully...) but who's winning the most games and if the Los Angeles Galaxy wants to win some, they better get their act together quick.

''We have to look forward to the next game and work hard because it's a process that we have to get right,'' Beckham said. ''And we will, because we've got a lot of talent in this team. It's just about getting it onto the pitch and proving it to people.''

David Beckham and the rest of the Los Angeles Galaxy will play the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium next this Sunday.

Can David Beckham lead the Los Angeles Galaxy to win Sunday's MLS soccer fixture? Bodog has the odds.

Los Angeles Galaxy +375

New England Revolution -140
