How far can Martina Hingis go at Wimbledon 2007?
Martina Hingis is trying to make a comeback and a strong finish at Wimbledon will give her that push back on top.
Yep, Martina Hingis is getting somewhat desperate to make that return back on top of the women's division in tennis. She enters the 2007 Wimbledon Championships coming off a long layoff from the game for more than a month. She also entered this year's Wimbledon battles in London despite her doctors telling her she was only 70 percent match fit.
Of course, what do these doctors know for crying out loud? This is Wimbledon baby, the grandest and biggest tournament in tennis and Martina Hingis, being the competitor that she is, will be damned if she misses this one. Hell, it doesn't even matter if she'll get her sweet Swiss ass creamed (which is a certainty...) as long as she gets to play here.
Martina Hingis knows it will be one looong climb back on top. And yes, she knows too that she is no longer one of the favorites to win the 2007 Wimbledon Championships considering the talented new blood we have in women's tennis these days. The likes of Ana Ivanovic and of course, the hot and sexy Maria Sharapova.
''I don't see myself right now as a contender. But I'm happy to be able to run and walk and play tennis again. I wasn't able to do that five weeks ago. You know, sometimes simple things make you really happy.''
''Sometimes you realize, you know, that not everything is about winning Grand Slam titles, what it does to you at the end of the day. But I wish I definitely wasn't injured.''
Martina Hingis, 26, engaged to Czech pro Radek Stepanek, is hoping to start a comeback within a comeback at the 2007 Wimbledon Championships. She logged an amazingly trouble-free journey back to the top 10 last year, her first season on the WTA circuit since 2002, and began this campaign strongly, reaching a final at the Gold Coast Australian Open tuneup and winning in Tokyo.
