David Beckham can leave Real Madrid as a champion
Of course, we are still a few games away from that.
Yep, the pop icon we simply know as David Beckham can leave Real Madrid a champion. You see, David Beckham has been a godforsaken loser for four years now, NEVER winning any trophy whatsoever in his four seasons with Madrid. Now that Real Madrid is on top of the 2007 Spanish La Liga, that long drought could be over soon.
Of course, with David Beckham on the verge of moving to the United States and play for the Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer (MLS), you just know that Becks is just salivating for the hero's exit with a chance to leave Spain with something more than a bad taste in his mouth.
The 29-time league champions, Real Madrid, took over sole possession of first place for the first time in the 2007 Spanish La Liga, and they did it by scoring three second-half goals in a 4-3 win over Espanyol. The win was the team's seventh in its last eight games.
If David Beckham can help Real Madrid hang on to the lead for the remaining games of the season, it would end its worst slump since the early 1950s.
''We now depend on ourselves to win,'' Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain said, he scored the winning goal against Espanyol in the 89th minute. ''We are on the right path to become champions.''
It seems it was only yesterday when Real Madrid was in shambles. David Beckham announced he was leaving the team for the MLS, they only managed to win one game in seven league matches and they were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League.
Not, it seems all is fine and dandy for Real Madrid once again.
