Oscar De La Hoya fights Steve Forbes at the Home Depot Center in his return to HBO since 2001
Although that probably don't mean shit to most of us, it does to the Golden Boy.
You see, for the first time since 2001, the ''Golden Boy'' Oscar De La Hoya comes home to HBO when he goes up against former champion Steve Forbes this Saturday for HBO's flagship boxing series.
The De La Hoya - Forbes bout will headline the inaugural boxing event at The Home Depot Center's 27,000-seat soccer stadium. Oscar De la Hoya will be making his 31st appearance on HBO and is hoping that the fans who supported him as an amateur in East Los Angeles will be supporting him again this Saturday.
De La Hoya, the former six-division world champion, will also have Floyd Mayweather Sr. back in his corner for this bout. The two separated ways when De La Hoya went up against his trainer's son, Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a high-grossing fight, May of 2007. De La Hoya is hoping to earn the same this Saturday considering that he sure has a lot going on for him coming into this bout.
On the other hand, Steve Forbes is coming off a split-decision victory over Francisco Bojado last October. Although his last fight is not the same high-grossing event like that of De La Hoya's last fight, he still has some momentum going for him.
Oh yeah, while the Golden Boy has Floyd Mayweather Sr. in his corner, Steve Forbes will have Jeff Mayweather in his. And in case you're wondering, the dude is Floyd Mayweather Sr.'s brother.
Forbes, who is making his HBO debut on Saturday, has a 33-5 record with nine wins coming by way of knockout. De La Hoya, on the other hand, is 38-5 with 30 knockouts. That's 30 more reasons why you should bet on De La Hoya to fuck Steve Forbes up.
