After all, he is the NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

As the 2008 NBA playoffs continue, Kevin Garnett was awarded with the NBA Defensive Player of the Year trophy after leading the Boston Celtics back to the postseason with the best regular season record in all of the NBA.

You read it folks, Kevin Garnett is this season's Defensive Player of the Year, winning the league's top defensive honors for the first time in his 13-year career.

Now I don't know why it took the league 13 years before they recognized the ''grade A defense'' in KG's game with the NBA Defensive Player of the Year trophy, probably has something to do with KG spending all those years with a loser like the Minnesota Timberwolves.

''I actually assumed he had won it before,'' Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers said. ''I had assumed he won three or four of them.''

Kevin Garnet, being the consummate teammate that he is, claimed that anybody from his team can win the award. ''I just so happen to be the one who talks the loudest,'' he later said, before being presented with the keys to a new Kia Borrego, a perk he got after winning the NBA's top defensive honors.

Garnett was traded from Minnesota to Boston before the season began. Now that KG is with a team like the Boston Celtics, the very team he led back to the postseason, it is understandable that the spotlight is being rested on him.

Of course, that also has something to do with the team winning all those games this year.

As of press time Garnett, with teammates Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, is trying to lead the Boston Celtics past the first round of the 2008 NBA playoffs. The Atlanta Hawks lost to the Celtics in Boston by a considerable margin in the first two games of the series and nobody is expecting them to bounce back against these Celtics even if the series has shifted to Atlanta for games 3 and 4.

Sorry ATL, but you are merely a welcome mat for the Boston Celtics while they advance to the second round.
