Talladega Nights will come to NASCAR this Sunday
NO, this is not the next Will Ferrell flick.
Seasoned drivers such as Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch will be among the pre-race favorites for the Aaron's 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, April 27 at Talladega Superspeedway.
The Sprint Cup Series is the top racing series of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. Sprint Cup Series was formerly known as the Strictly Stock Series (1949), Grand National Series (1950-1971), the Winston Cup Series (1972-2003), the NEXTEL Cup Series (2004-2007), and most recently the Sprint Cup Series in 2008.
Jeff Gordon, who will wheel a specially painted No. 24 DuPont / Pepsi Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports in the Aaron's 499 on Sunday, April 27, at Talladega Superspeedway will be shooting for his third straight Talladega Superspeedway victory after sweeping both Sprint Cup Series events at NASCAR's Most Competitive Track in 2007.
''I don't think a lot has changed since the last time we were there,'' Jeff Gordon said during the recent Sprint Cup Series weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. ''We had an awesome, awesome day (last October), awesome race. Love to have the same result. Certainly any time we go to a restrictor track, and Talladega being one of the best ones out there for us, I always look forward to going there.''
Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch are among at least 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars that will pull double duty during the upcoming Aaron's Dream Weekend competing in both the Aaron's 312 and the Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Other double duty Sprint Cup Series drivers that are expected to compete in both the Aaron's 499 and the Aaron's 312 include NASCAR Nationwide Series points leader Clint Bowyer, David Ragan, Patrick Carpentier, Greg Biffle, Reed Sorenson, Denny Hamlin, Dario Franchitti, Carl Edwards and David Reutimann.
''For race fans, seeing the likes of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart compete in one race at Talladega Superspeedway is not enough,'' Track President Rick Humphrey said. ''Having many of the top NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers compete in next Saturday's Aaron's 312 provides extra incentive to our race fans to join us for both races during the Aaron's Dream Weekend.''
