Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz won't play in the 2008 MLB All-Star Game because of Left Wrist Injury
Too bad eh?
The 2008 MLB All-Star Game is fast approaching but unfortunately for one slugger from Boston, he won't be participating. And considering the success in sports this city had this season, seeing one of their biggest stars slowed down like this is just sad.
I'm referring to David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox. And yes, with him suffering a left wrist injury, he won't be playing in baseball's midsummer classic. Unfortunately for baseball fans, that's one less guy who can bring that ball flying away from the park.
''I'm going to go to the All-Star Game. Show respect for the fans. I'm not going to be able to play,'' David Ortiz said. ''I'm still working my way up. I'm feeling better everyday. I'm not going to tell you when I'm going to be 100 percent because I don't know.''
Uh oh... You read it right, Ortiz has no idea when will he be able to return to the Red Sox rotation this 2008 MLB baseball season. And with them having a World Series title to defend, him coming back should be big. Yes, bigger than his ass.
Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona is still hoping for the best.
''When we get to the All-Star break, it's hard to know exactly, but that's probably where he's going to start feeling like he can play,'' Terry Francona said. ''When we get toward that break, maybe we can start to turn him loose a little bit. Then again, maybe he won't be ready.''
David Ortiz led the Red Sox both in home runs made as well as RBIs this 2008 MLB baseball season. Ortiz had 13 homers and 43 RBIs. Clearly, this guy is as important to the Red Sox as Kevin Garnett is to the Celtics.
