The City of Indianapolis going for more Super Bowl after Super Bowl XLI at Miami, Florida
2011 is the year and the city of Indy wants to host Super Bowl XLV.
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay started the city's bid for the 2011 Super Bowl with a whopping $1 million pledge to the fundraising effort. The said pledge, announced at the Indiana Convention Center, immediately includes $200,000 to fund Indy's application to NFL owners.
Mayor Bart Peterson and Gov. Mitch Daniels told a crowd of business leaders and political supporters about the economic benefits of bringing as estimated 98,000 visitors to the city.
They cited a study by PricewaterhouseCoopers that the event would mean an estimated $262 million in economic impact to the Indianapolis region. Business leaders said the Super Bowl's ripple effects, as well as the good publicity, would be unmeasurable.
Indianapolis mayor, Bart Peterson, said that the offer to donate the first $1 million by the Indianapolis Colts owner is unprecedented. As of press time, other cities competing for Super Bowl XLV includes Dallas and Arizona.
The location of the 2011 Super Bowl will probably be decided this May when owners will vote on it at their spring meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.
Before Indianapolis makes any moves for the huge 2011 game, the city must first complete an exhaustive process and submit a formal bid to the NFL by April 2. The document, expected to be several inches thick, will require the city to itemize how it will handle everything from hotels to parking to transportation.
